Brady gave the keynote speech at the Florida Association of Pediatric Tumor Programs (FAPTP) 48th Annual Seminar "Advances in Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology" November 6, 2025. Brady's keynote titled Smiles Make the World Go Round: Finding Purpose After Pediatric Cancer took the listeners on how Brady used his childhood cancer experience to find purpose in his life to give back. He showcased the importance of each individual's story collectively and how their story is a critical piece to inspire others.

In 2025, the Florida Association of Pediatric Tumor Programs (FAPTP), contracted with Brady C. Lucas, M.Ed., author of Smiley’s Smile, to present the Keynote speech for our 48th annual medical education conference, “Advances in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology” held in November. Brady, a two-time cancer survivor, provided the attendees with a heartfelt and insightful presentation taking everyone on his journey through the many up’s and downs of his cancer battle; leaving the national audience of pediatric hematology and oncology nurses grateful and inspired by the kind words he used to describe the many healthcare professionals who shared in his struggle and ultimate victory over cancer. FAPTP’s 48th annual seminar was greatly enhanced by Brady’s courageous story. -Brian Calkins FAPTP Program Director
"If there’s one thing I hope you take away from today, it’s this: Empowerment matters. Especially for children. Especially in healthcare. Every second of my treatment, I was included. When I relapsed in 2010, I was given the choice of how to proceed—without coercion from my doctors, care team, or parents. Talk about pressure. But also—talk about trust. Empowerment isn’t just about decision-making. It’s about education. It’s about breaking down scary medical terms into language children can understand. It’s about giving them a glimpse of control in a world that feels uncontrollable. Even for younger children—it can be done. Books like Smiley’s Smile exist to help bridge that gap. To break down barriers. To make space for courage, curiosity, and connection."
